Awasi Atacama – Adams & Butler

Iconic Hotels

Awasi Atacama is an all-inclusive Relais & Châteaux luxury lodge situated at over 2,500 metres above sea level in the world’s driest desert, in the ancient trading town of San Pedro de Atacama in northeastern Chile. Inspired by the pre-Inca ruins of the nearby village of Tulor, the property was built using traditional construction techniques in collaboration with a local historian, prioritizing open spaces and locally sourced materials. The lodge comprises twelve private, round adobe suites featuring thatched roofs, spacious bathrooms and living areas, and private courtyards with alfresco showers. The circular architecture and the combination of adobe, stone, and wood keep the suites cool during hot days and warm during cold nights. As with its Patagonia counterpart, the operational model is built around a one-to-one service ratio: each guest is assigned a dedicated private guide and a 4×4 vehicle for the duration of their stay, allowing excursions to be fully designed around individual tastes and schedules. The surrounding landscape offers a remarkable range of experiences, from breathtaking daytime scenery across volcanoes, geysers, and salt flats to world-class stargazing conditions at night.
