Remote, beautiful and intimate, Clouds is like a country house hotel…but set on a mountain ridge with sweeping views of the magnificent Virunga Volcanoes and the Great Rift Valley. The Nkuringo Gorilla family trailhead is directly outside the lodge – their home range tends to remain within a 2 hour trek…depending on the movement of the group.  An additional 7 habituated gorilla families are found at Rushaga,  also easily accessible from Clouds via a short transfer. Clouds is a true leader in eco-tourism and community conservation:   built nearly 20 years ago in partnership with the Africa Wildlife Foundation, the Gorilla Conservation Programme and the local Nkuringo community (NCCDF), the aim of the partnership is to protect the habitat of the Mountain Gorilla.    Guests stay in private stone cottages, all with fireplaces and sitting rooms furnished with deep plump sofas.  After a day of gorilla tracking, comfort is paramount and we get that.  So is excellent food – and Clouds delivers that in spades.
