Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp in the Mara recalls an era of luxury and quality, returning to the original spirit and essence of ‘safari’, reminiscent of a golden era of romance, professional guiding, adventure and elegance. It has a timeless unspoiled setting with sunset views stretching to distant horizons of the Maasai Mara and the Serengeti plains where game abounds. Calvin and Louise Cottar – fourth generation of a family with a rich safari heritage – established Cottar’s 1920s in the mid-nineties. The camp accommodates guests in authentic white canvas tents that are spacious and luxuriously furnished. Each tent consists of a main bedroom, an outdoor veranda, and a private en suite dressing room and bathroom. Guests can also enjoy a unique safari bath or safari shower, specially set up for them in the savannah! There are 11 luxurious tents in total: one unique honeymoon tent, six standard tents and four family tents. Family tents have living rooms with fireplaces. The camp spreads over 1km and the configuration of the camp ensures privacy for each tent, whether for honeymooners or families with young children. The camp has two main mess tent areas for fine dining, reading and relaxing, as well as a lovely pool and spa area where guests can enjoy optional massages after a game drive. Butlers are on stand-by to provide guests with discreet, yet attentive service. The location of the camp provides easy access to the Masai Mara national reserve which is only 1km away, and to cultural interactions with the local Maasai community.
