One of England’s stately homes, just 40 miles north west of London, set in over 90 acres of gardens and parkland designed by a contemporary of Capability Brown, located within the Vale of Aylesbury and on the edge of the Chilterns, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The National Trust-owned Grade 1 listed Jacobean and Georgian house provides all that is best in country house hospitality and service.
It has a remarkable history: its most famous resident was Louis XVIII, exiled King of France, for five years from 1809. In 1938 the house and estate were acquired by Ernest Cook, an early hero of the conservation movement. Hartwell House opened as an hotel in July 1989 and this famous stately home thus entered a new phase of its long and distinguished history.
The magnificent rooms are superbly furnished with antiques and hung with fine paintings. Many of the exquisitely designed bedrooms and suites are in the house and some in Hartwell Court, the converted coach houses or the Old Rectory. Royal rooms have high ceilings, fine fabrics and dreamy views over the extensive landscape, it is a truly idyllic setting.
