Property overview
The 14th century castle is set in 1200 acres of scenic woodland and gardens including a lake. For special events, the castle’s wonderful public rooms can accommodate a maximum of 60 people for a gathering in the castle’s drawing room and for a gala banquet dinner in the grand dining hall, otherwise one would need to hire a marquee for larger guest events. Not all bedrooms have ensuite bathroom facilities some are shared.
The castle is steeped in history with many antiquities and fine architectural details. Inspiring gatherings and special events are wonderful at the Castle. There is the beautiful architecture and the deep sense of history. Guests can have a ‘fun and unique experience’ during their stay with the opportunity of obtaining quotes for fun and interesting activities with the amazing and authentic castle backdrop.
On the castle’s tower level in the turret is the billiard room. There are wonderful acres of castle grounds to enjoy simply walking or you can obtain a quote from a forager or book an historical themed scavenger hunt with one of the preferred providers. There is a basic tennis court available to guests but please bring your own rackets and balls. Depending on the weather, croquet can be set up on the castle’s rear lawn where many of the fun outdoor activities are enjoyed.
Accommodation
The castle has stunningly beautiful public rooms, unique bedrooms, a happy warm atmosphere, and great vistas and views for photographs. A full size billiards table is available in a dramatic room at the top. All castle bedrooms have tea/coffee making facilities and bathrobes.
The castle’s first floor public rooms comprise an elegant drawing room with a log-burning stove, a wide bay window with views to the lake and a grand piano. Then there is the grand double aspect grand dining hall which can seat up to 60 guests featuring a stunning working fireplace and with a compact but well-equipped butler’s kitchen at one end from which guests can self-cater or can obtain quotes, sample menus and availability from one of the preferred catering providers. There is no on-site catering.
Guests have the use of the castle main table silverware including candelabras and ivory candles. Linking these two main reception rooms is the galleried bar landing area with a wonderful high ceiling and imposing window and a wonderful stone staircase which leads down to the grand entrance hall and vast wooden doors. On the entrance level there is the dance floor/meeting room and an adjacent café style bar area for discos and ceilidhs.

Location
The rugged coastline of Scotland’s Berwickshire Coast offers stunning views whether you explore from the clifftops of the coastal path or marvel at its geological wonders from the sea. Marine birds keep a vigilant eye and seals and dolphins inhabit these waters making it a superb place to observe the great diversity on display.
At the far northern reaches of the area is Cocksburnpath where the Southern Upland Way traditionally terminates giving walkers a stunning view out to sea as their reward. The town also serves as the northerly start for the four-day walk along the Berwickshire Coastal Path.
Midway down the path is St Abbs Head, with an iconic lighthouse and seabird colonies nesting amidst the rugged cliffs. The waters around St Abbs fishing village are a protected Marine Reserve and popular with scuba divers. Further along the coast is Coldingham Bay – a perfect golden sand beach nestled in a cove, particularly beloved of surfers who like to test their metal against the waves.
The picturesque harbour of Eyemouth sports a few fishing trawlers and some smart otters and seals who come to benefit from the fish being proffered by tourists.
