Property overview

The O’Connor Family have a rich History of eleven High Kings of Ireland & 26 Kings of Connacht and have lived on this heavily wooded 800 Acre estate on the Banks of the River Suck for more than 1 000 years – a time unrivalled in Ireland. O’Connor Manor was built in 1878 by Charles Owen O’Connor Don. In Victorian Italianate Style. Guests will find an Elegant House with House with a large collection of family Portraits, telling a unique and interesting story.

Accommodation

The spacious bedrooms at O’Connor Manor are luxurious with original furnishings, many with four poster beds and all have large en-suite bathrooms. Each room enjoys beautiful views over the parkland, and avenue. The main house sleeps eight guests (3 x double rooms and 1 x twin) and an additional 25 people in the self-catering accommodation (4 cottages) in the courtyard.
The house is run in an informal manner with warm welcoming rooms, open fires and views over the beautiful parkland. Guests who wish to dine with us in the evening will be treated to "Country House" cuisine set around local seasonally available ingredients all under the gaze of seven generations of O’Connor’s in our handsome dining room. Our guests can choose to unwind and enjoy tea and cake beside the fire in the library or are free to enjoy the peace and serenity of our 800-acre estate.

Location

Roscommon is quite beautiful, with a varied Connacht landscape that encompasses lakes, rivers and mountains. You can learn a lot about Ireland in Roscommon. For starters, it was the setting for numerous Irish myths, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Rathcroghan, which was the home of mythological queen Maeve. Roscommon also houses the National Famine Museum in Strokestown – one of the few museums in the world on the topic of the Famine. In the town of Boyle, you can visit the stunning remains of Boyle Abbey, the first Cistercian monastery in Connacht, founded in 1142. Likewise, the King House in Boyle is a lofty old Georgian castle that faces onto the River Boyle, while the crumbling, ivy-covered remains of Roscommon Castle near the county town were constructed in 1269.
