Situated in the beautiful Barrow Valley in County Carlow, Borris House is one of the most picturesque country houses in Ireland. House is available exclusively and completely for your use, you have the freedom to let your creativity run wild and make the wedding or event of your dreams a reality. We are not a hotel. We are a private family run house that opens up its doors to you and your guests with a warm and homely welcome. Constructed in the Tudor style, Borris House was built in 1731 by Morgan Kavanagh. It is the hereditary home of the MacMorrough Kavanagh family, former Celtic kings of Leinster, and the famous 12th century Kavanagh Charter Horn remains on display in the house today.

Each of our Regency bedrooms is individually styled in the grand old house tradition and are filled with antique furniture, interesting curios and extremely comfortable beds. Each room has a wonderful view over the gardens, parkland and surrounding countryside. Borris House is set on 650 acres of farming and woodland. Recently awarded an Organic status, the farm produces some fantastic organic produce to the market. With the River Barrow running nearby, and extensive woodland, Borris House is home to some beautiful exotic plants and trees, creating the perfect fairy-tale backdrop for filming and photo shoots. There is plenty for enthusiastic visitors to explore and appreciate.
Location
Situated in the Ireland’s “Sunny Southeast”, Co. Carlow's greatest claim to fame is its collection of dolmens, or megalithic portal tombs covered by capstones. In fact, the capstone of Brownshill Dolmen, located a few kilometres outside of Carlow Town, is meant to be the heaviest of its kind in Europe, weighing in at a massive 100 metric tonnes. Co. Carlow is generally a pretty quiet place, keeping to its attractive villages and green countryside. The River Barrow flows right through Carlow Town, the county town, and provides locals and visitors with one of the most beautiful waterways in Ireland, including ample chances for boating, rowing and angling, including salmon fishing. Gardens also abound around Carlow, which hosts several garden events each year, including the Carlow Garden Festival in August. Meanwhile, the Carlow Garden Trail leads to the many gardens and parks around the county.
