Approximate driving distance: JRO – Legendary Lodge– 1 – 2 hours

Renowned as the safari capital of Tanzania, the attractive and vibrant town of Arusha is the gateway to Tanzania’s northern wildlife area and is often the first port of call for travellers. It is nestled beneath the towering peaks of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro and offers an abundance of first-class restaurants, bars, markets, attractions, and adventures. Highlights of the area include Arusha National Park in Ngurdoto Crater, the National Natural History Museum and several beautiful coffee plantations that surround the town.

Day 2

After a delicious breakfast, you will be transferred to Arusha Airport where you will catch a scheduled bush flight to Katavi National Park. Upon arrival at the airstrip, you will be met by a representative of Nomad Chada Katavi and enjoy a game drive en-route to the camp, arriving in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon enjoying the activities that the camp has to offer.

Katavi National Park is a relatively untouched wilderness paradise, situated in the western area of Tanzania, and is home to the largest herds of buffalo on the planet. Katavi National Park is the third largest park in Tanzania and is known for its diverse landscapes and abundance of game, boasting large populations of elephants, lions, hippos and more.

Day 3 - 4

Enjoy the day experiencing the adventures and activities on offer at the camp, including twice-daily game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles, bush walks with an armed guide and fly camping which will take guests to the heart of Katavi’s untamed wilderness.

Nomad Chada Katavi is a classic expeditionary camp set in the remote Katavi National Park. The camp sits bravely on the edge of the Chada Plain beneath the shady Tamarind trees, offering its guests breathtaking panoramic views, which can be enjoyed from the privacy of the tents or from the beautifully appointed dining area. Chada Katavi is all about exclusivity with its six beautifully furnished tents boast fine wooden furniture, comfy beds, and a lovely bush bathroom set behind the tent.

Day 5

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip where you will catch a scheduled bush flight to Mahale Mountains National Park. Upon arrival at the airstrip, you will be met by a representative of Mbali Mbali Mahale and enjoy a dhow boat transfer en-route to the camp, arriving in time for lunch.

Set among the spectacular, forested slopes of the Mahale Mountains, the Mahale Mountains National Park is renowned for its fantastic sunsets over Lake Tanganyika, attracting keen photographers and safari enthusiasts alike. The Mahale Mountains National Park was originally created to protect the thousands of chimpanzees that inhabit the region and its breath-taking array of habitats include rainforest, grasslands, alpine bamboo and woodlands.

Spend the afternoon enjoying the activities that the camp has to offer, including kayaking, boat safaris, forest walks, and chimpanzee trekking.

Day 6 - 8

Enjoy the day experiencing the adventures and activities on offer at the camp, including kayaking, boat safaris,
forest walks, and chimpanzee trekking.

Mbali Mbali Mahale sits on a stretch of sheltered golden beach, deep in the heart of the African interior. Boasting a backdrop formed by the dramatic Mahale Mountain range, and the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tanganyika in the foreground, this secluded and romantic hideaway is the perfect blend of relaxation and luxury. Each well-appointed Beach tent has been strategically positioned to offer guests privacy, while still allowing easy access to the beach and communal areas. Each Beach Tent is on a raised platform; delivers 24-hour electricity and hot and cold running water. The tents provide self-contained mosquito nets around the beds and bathroom. The primary activity in the park is chimpanzee trekking, carefully monitored so as to reduce human impact on the famous habituated M-Group chimps. Take a gentle boat safari on the lake, or opt for a fishing excursion, where you may encounter crocodile, hippo and otter as well as an abundance of birdlife. Kayaks are available for exploring the lake at your leisure, or you may choose to simply stretch out under one of the salas on the beach, while the gentle lapping of the lake lulls you into an afternoon siesta.

Day 9

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip where you will catch a scheduled bush flight to Nyerere National Park (ex Selous Game Reserve). Upon arrival at the airstrip, you will be met by a representative of Siwandu Camp and enjoy game drive en-route to the camp. Spend the afternoon enjoying the activities that the camp has to offer, including kayaking, boat safaris, forest walks, and chimpanzee trekking.

Nyerere National Park, formerly known as the Selous Game Reserve, is the largest in Africa, spanning 55,000km² and is four times larger than the Serengeti. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Nyerere’s riverine wilderness and diverse habitat creates the perfect environment for a wealth of animals and supports an extraordinary array of vegetation. Due to the local topography around Siwandu, our location is considered the undisputed prime position for superlative game viewing.

Nyerere has over 2,100 species of plants, more than 400 varieties of birds, more than half of Tanzania’s elephant population and over 120,000 buffalos. The Park’s 40,000 hippo and 4,000 lions are probably the largest populations on the continent; not to mention the fact that it is home to the planet’s largest population of rare wild dogs. This resplendence gives guests a rare opportunity to glimpse all of these animals in truly unspoilt landscape.

Day 10-11

Enjoy the day experiencing the adventures and activities on offer at the camp, including game drives in 4WD open sided vehicles, game walks, and boat cruise

Sheltered in a grove of palms on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, part of the watery byways of the Rufiji River system, Siwandu is perfectly situated to experience fully the breathtaking landscape and abundant wildlife of the Nyerere National Park (formerly known as the Selous Game Reserve). Broadly spaced along the lakeshore, Siwandu’s superbly-appointed accommodation ensures maximum privacy and invites you to soak up the sights and sounds of Nyerere. The 10 spacious octagonal tents of canvas and secure mosquito netting, topped in thatch, not only allows for constant air-flow, but also enables guests to gaze upon the animals as they saunter past.

Day 12

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip to catch your flight to Zanzibar. Upon arrival at Zanzibar Airport, you will be met by your driver and transferred to Zawadi Hotel where you will be staying for the next 4 nights.

Zawadi sits atop a cliff, with a spectacular view of the Indian Ocean, framed by swaying coconut palms and bougainvillea. It is a private, intimate getaway beach retreat with only twelve spacious villas.
